Baby-friendly Restaurants in Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto)
Japan has a ton of restaurants offering different types of local cuisines. Most of the ones we went to didn’t require reservations which is perfect when dining with a baby. Here are a couple of our favorite restaurants we visited during our trip to Japan that we would recommend that were baby-friendly!
Kyoto
GINSUI
Ginsui was probably the friendliest restaurant we went to. The entire establishment uses traditional seating with tatami mats, which means there are no shoes and strollers allowed to pass the entrance of the restaurant. Upon our arrival, the host kindly asked if we could fold our stroller and then carefully set it aside in a designated area. When we arrived to our seats, they had set up extra mats for our baby to lie on. How thoughtful right?!
HIKINIKU TO KOME
Reservations is a must! While this restaurant is baby-friendly in terms of being able to bring your baby, the seating is not baby-friendly at all. It is bar seating throughout the restaurant and no place to put a stroller. We held our baby the entire time and while it was manageable since she was only 5 months old and not moving around too much, I wouldn’t recommend it. However, it was one of the best meals we had so I just had to mention it in case you’re traveling with grandparents and they’re willing to babysit ;)
DRAGON BURGER
Stumbled upon this place near our Ryokan and it might be one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. Plenty of seating and space enough for a stroller.
Ginza/Tokyo
TONKATSU MAISEN AYOAMA
A large restaurant with plenty of seating and enough room to fit our Bugaboo Butterfly Stroller.
YAKINIKU KAISEKI TANGYU GINZA
This place is great if you want to sit down and eat lunch or dinner away from the crowds. They offer private room reservations (for free) and with the doors close, it’s quite peaceful.
